We are pleased to announce the next “International Conference on Material Science and Nanotechnology (ICMN 2022),” which will take place in Rome, Italy from October 3 to 5, 2022. The conference’s theme is “Advancing Research in the Age of Material Science and Nanotechnology.” The goal of ICMN 2022 is to address current research and future prospects in nanotechnology-related industrial, medical, and energy applications. It will also be an opportunity for prominent researchers, scientists, professors, and academics from around the world to exchange ideas, present research, and discuss in the field of Nanotechnology.

Nanotechnology for face masks

The spike in demand for surgical masks and respirators during the COVID-19 pandemic has prompted a global production rush. However, because the particles in breathable air vary greatly in size, not all mask filter materials are adequate for all pollutants and pathogens. Fiber diameter, porosity, and filter thickness are all factors that influence filtration efficiency. If the goal is to filter out viruses, the filtering medium must be capable of capturing nanoscale particles. Various nanomaterials – nanofibers, nanoparticles, graphene, metal-organic frameworks – have been used to generate various mask styles and air filtration materials. Researchers have been working to increase the efficiency of antiviral face masks since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, by adding various capabilities such as metal nanoparticles and other materials such as metal nanoparticles and herbal extracts to inactivate pathogens, using graphene to make masks photothermal and superhydrophobic, and even using triboelectric nanogenerators to prolong mask lifetime.
