Program: U-Lead Hong Kong

Goals for U-Lead Hong Kong: 

1)    Through an educational and leadership conference U-Lead will provide students in Hong Kong with an opportunity to learn about the four pillars of Student Programs: leadership, education, service and awareness. College Council members from the United States and Operation Smile International Staff will plan and implement the conference with guidance from Operation Smile Hong Kong.

2)    Identify students from Hong Kong who attend U-Lead to take a leadership role to help expand student programs in their regions.

3)    Prepare students on each medical mission in China to work with the mission team.  At the mission site, students teach patients and their guardians basic health such as dental hygiene, burn care and prevention, nutrition, hand washing, and oral re-hydration therapy.  The students and their sponsor also travel to schools and orphanages in the surrounding areas to give healthcare presentations and share their Operation Smile involvement. 

Background: In 2011 Student Programs held U-Lead Conferences in Panama and India.  Both conferences were extremely successful in growing student involvement in those countries.  Since those conferences Panamanian students have organized and lead 4 of their own student conferences reaching new students.  They have also completed several major fundraisers and service projects.
