EUROLUCE LIGHT FOCUS ON MILAN
What defines excellent lighting design?
23rd - 24th April 2009
Congress Center, Libra and Sagittarius Rooms
10.00am to 1.00pm - 1.30pm to 6.00pm
Concomitantly with the 25th edition of Euroluce, and once again in partnership with the lighting designer associations PLDA and APIL, a full and stimulating programme of parallel initiatives has been organised, devised as a direct homage to light.
The purpose of this conference – Light Focus on Milan – is to bring together lighting designers, invited from all over the world. It will be an opportunity for professional lighting designers to broaden their horizons and for furthering education on the theme of Light and Lighting Design by providing a forum for discussion and the sharing of ideas.
The input of an expert lighting designer is crucial for the inception and realisation of any project involving the creation of an ''excellent lighting design''.
When a professional lighting designer is commissioned to do a job, he or she is satisfied with nothing less than an excellent result. But what defines excellent lighting design? What different approaches and concepts can be applied in order to achieve the desired and requisite quality?
"Light Focus on Milan" will be split into 14 sessions which will cover topics of interest and relevance to all those involved in architectural lighting design and creative spaces that meet users' requirements and clients' expectations.
Topics will be: excellent lighting design for human beings, excellent lighting design for sustainable projects, excellent lighting design for specific visual tasks, excellent lighting design for art.
Participation fee applies. The participation fee does not include entrance ticket to the fair.

EUROLUCE INTERIOR LIGHTING WORKSHOP
22 April 2009
from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm
23-26 April 2009
from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm
Fiera Milano, Rho - Event Area, pavilion 24
The Interior Lighting Workshop has been specially conceived for architects and lighting designers to give them the opportunity to acquaint themselves with lighting design and experiment with light.
Lighting design is understanding how light affects our emotions and feeling of well-being. It is also about how light responds to different materials and colours, and what effect it has depending on its source and angle of radiation.
The Practical Interior Lighting Workshops comprise three-hour sessions where the participants are first taught an overview of lighting design fundamentals: the inter-relationship of light and space; the basic lighting design techniques; the words used to describe lighting effects.
After a presentation of the available equipment, participants will be asked to consider different questions: how light can influence our perception of scale and distance, or what factors influence the selection and placement of light sources, or what is the role of darkness (shadow) in establishing spatial hierarchy?
The main part of the workshop is the hands-on experimentation phase, where the participants have the opportunity to test their ideas with real equipment under the guidance of the workshop head.
The workshop will take place inside of the exhibition in an 8m x 6m x 3m closed space. The space will be darkened, allowing for the workshop participants to determine the lighting conditions. Interior finishes include white and black surfaces, as well as wood and metal with matt or shiny surfaces. There will also be objects of different shapes and sizes in the space. Available light sources: fluorescent, halogen, LEDs
