【Background】
International industry experts predicted that: "the 20th century is the century of silicon; the 21st century will be the century of carbon."
China is a country with the richest graphite reserves in the world，while the crystalline flake graphite is one of China’s minerals that possesses priorities of competition in the world.
Graphite industry in recent years has experienced the expansion of production capacity, falling prices and dull market and most of the exported graphite products being initially processed products with low added value.
Besides, the mining of graphite minerals has caused environmental problems, which aroused great concern by the state departments concerned, thus leading to the export duties levied on raw minerals being raised, and the relevant laws and policies covering environment-protection have been intensified. Internationally, the technologies in graphite mining, processing and application has witnessed a rapid development, either in the field of basic industries such as steel-making, automobile, or in other high technological and military basic industries.
The industries relating to graphite and enterprises tackle and solve the following key problems as how to exploit and utilize China’s natural graphite resources reasonably, to strengthen the management of the industry, to control moderately the total quantity of production; to organize large-scale graphite enterprises group; to encourage the development, production and export of deep-processed products, to raise the quality and grades of the products, to strengthen the stamina of the enterprises.
To cope with the above problems issues, China Non-metallic Minerals Industry Association, the Veteran Scientific and Technological Workers Association of THE CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES have jointly decided to hold “China International Graphite Conference 2008”, which is to exploit the best way to make fullest use of the natural resources and to study the advanced processing technology and the application by graphite consuming enterprises facing the global economical development.
